Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between national and international transit?
National transit concerns transport between two customs offices on Moroccan territory (e.g., Casablanca → Tangier). International TIR transit allows crossing multiple countries with a single guarantee (e.g., France → Morocco via Spain). TIR significantly simplifies border formalities.
What guarantee is required for transit?
The guarantee covers potentially due duties and taxes. For national transit, it can be a bank bond or credit line with ADII. For TIR, the TIR carnet itself constitutes the international guarantee (up to €100,000 per carnet).
How long can a transit last?
Customs sets a route deadline when issuing the transit declaration. This deadline depends on distance and transport mode. Generally, 24 to 72h for national transit, several days for international TIR. Exceeding without justification incurs penalties.
What happens if seals are broken?
Breaking seals is a serious offense. Immediately contact the nearest customs office to have the situation recorded. A report will be drawn up. Depending on circumstances, penalties and duty payment may be required. Transport insurance may cover these situations.
Can destination be changed during transit?
No, the destination is fixed in the transit declaration. Any modification requires a new declaration and customs approval. In case of force majeure (breakdown, accident), immediately contact your broker to regularize the situation with ADII.
